Veritas College pupils excel in final examinations

Veritas College's Matric candidates yielded another magnificent set of results for 2015 in the Independent Examination Board (IEB).

Veritas College is celebrating a 100% pass rate for the 18th consecutive year.

Terry Holland, head of the Senior College, is proud to announce that the number of degree passes has risen from 75% in 2014 to 84% in 2015.

There were 58 candidates who achieved 61 distinctions and 84% achieved a Degree and the rest a Diploma pass.

“The degree pass rate might change to 94%, after five students rewrite one subject each in the supplementary exams in February,” she said.

The top candidate, Chloe Mitchell (18), achieved six distinctions of which one was an A+ symbol (90% – 100%) and five A symbols (80% – 89%).

She missed her seventh distinction by only 1% and will apply for a remark.

Chloe has applied to study accounting science at the University of Stellenbosch.

“She achieved an overall average of 85.4% and is also in the top 1% in the country in business studies,” said Holland.

Iandro van der Linde (18) also achieved six distinctions, including one A+ symbol in maths.

Whitney Howell (18) achieved five distinctions.

Giorgia Silvaggi (18) achieved four distinctions and is very happy.

She has applied to obtain a law degree at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Steven Selkon and Nonduduzo Simelane achieved four distinctions while Damian Borien and Thomas Perikli achieved three distinctions.

The 58 candidates as a whole achieved 61 distinctions, 22 of which were attained for life orientation, five by the Mathematics Department, five for English first language and six for Afrikaans additional language.

Veritas College wrote Advanced Programme Mathematics for the fifth year and the results are excellent.

Holland said she is proud to acknowledge the efforts of their sterling learners and their excellent teachers.

“People of this calibre are good for the future of this country,” she said.
