EMPD nab nine men for possession of stolen goods

Two EMPD officers arrested nine suspects in Fifth Avenue, CBD on Reconciliation Day

The officers followed up on information about suspects involved in truck hijackings, who were on their way to Springs to sell stolen goods.

When Louis Els and Louwtjie du Toit stopped a truck and two vehicles opposite the Springs Civic Centre at 1.45pm, they discovered stolen goods in the back of the truck.

“We asked the suspects to open the back of the truck and found stolen goods (boxes of cooking oil) to the value of approximately R50 000,” says Els.

Els and du Toit arrested the nine suspects for possession of suspected stolen goods and phoned the Springs police.

A case has been opened for further investigation into a possible link to other truck hijackings.

The suspects were taken to the police cells and will appear in court soon.

Amanda Greybe, acting Springs police spokesman, confirms the arrest and says the boxes of stolen oil were taken to the police station.
