Tips for a positive new year

The start of a new year is on the doorstep as we get ready to bid farewell to 2015 and start preparing for 2016.

The past year may have had its challenges and life-changing moments for most people and some look on the start of a new year with anticipation that is daunting.

If 2015 didn’t store many successes for you, here are a few tips on taking the new year head-on:

  • Stay positive

Listen to cynics and doubters and believe that success is impossible, or know that with faith and an optimistic attitude all things are possible.

  • When waking up in the morning, complete the following statement:

My purpose is…

  • Take a morning walk of gratitude.

It will create a fertile mind ready for success.

  • Focus on learning, loving, growing and serving.
  • Believe that everything happens for a reason.

Expect good things to come out of challenging experiences.

  • Don’t waste precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things that cannot be controlled.

Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

  • Remember, there’s no substitute for hard work.
  • Get more sleep

You can’t replace sleep with coffee, sleeping less will result in mistakes as the brain cannot function fully without the necessary rest.

Sleep more and find yourself rejuvenated with fresh ideas for a new day.

  • Lastly, smile and laugh more.

Laughing is a natural anti-depressant and could not just make your day, but can be the smile someone else may need that day.

Life is a series of disappointments and successes, but remember: “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10 000 ways that won’t work.” – Thomas Edison.
