Everything needed to make a hand print ornament can be found in the kitchen and can be made in one quick go.

This can be so much fun for the entire family this holiday season.

What you need:

  • 4 cups of flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • Food colouring
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Water to moisten
  • Cookie sheet
  • Drop of oil
  • Small rolling pin
  • Drinking straw
  • Ribbon
  • Plate for a guide
  • Paint (if desired)

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 150°C.
  2. Gradually blend in the flour and salt and gradually add water.
  3. Lightly grease a baking sheet with oil.
  4. Form and roll out the dough on the cookie sheet. Make sure the dough is thick enough to form the hand print. If your dough is too thin, it will not work.
  5. Use your straw to make a whole in it before the children emboss their hand print.
  6. Put the ornaments in the oven for an hour or air dry over night or for 24 hours.
  7. Paint if desired to do so. Use organic or natural paint if possible.

Making these ornaments capture some beautiful moments that are experienced at home.

This recipe can make make three hand prints, depending on the size.
