Keeping safe when using fireworks

If you are planning on buying your children fireworks over the holiday season, it is important to make sure that you always keep an eye on them.

Following these tips could help to keep your children safe:

• Do not leave children to light the fireworks on their own.
• Make sure that you or the children are not in loose clothing.
• Do not light fireworks while indoors.
• Do not point your fireworks at other people, the house, dry grass, leaves or flammable substances.
• Put a safe distance between you and the lit fireworks.
• If a firework you have lit does not go off, pour water over it then throw it away instead of going to check it out.
• Keep a bucket of water close by.
• If you sustain any injury, rush to the doctor or the hospital for urgent medical attention.
• Adults should always be present to give children direction on how to use the explosives.
