New golf pro joins club

Pollak Park Golf Club is under going a makeover to help the club grow.

Rachel Howard is the first Professional Golfer’s Association (PGA) woman in the East Rand to run a pro shop.

She has also been given the task of golf pro but she is “looking forward to seeing the club grow back to what it should be”.

Rachel received her teaching diploma in 2003 and qualified as a PGA professional in 2014.

Her aim is to increase members for the junior league and women’s league.

The club is confident that with the help of Rachel and the newly improved “greens” the rumours of Pollak Park closing will cease.

Committee members and admin staff are looking forward to expanding the club and have extensive plans to continue making improvements to the grounds and premises.

Roy Palmer, an active committee member, says they are looking to add new members to their club but visitors are also welcome at the club any time.

“The club is strong and moving forward, we are keeping the golf course in good condition,” he says.

He adds, that instead of an individual, a committee is now running the club and Rachel is concentrating on running the pro shop and being the club’s golf pro.

The club welcomes Rachel to the Pollak Park team.
