Robbers lie in wait for victim

A man was robbed by four men after withdrawing a large amount of cash at a bank on Friday.

The man went to the bank at 10am to withdraw R20 000 and when he arrived at his house in Fusion Street, Casseldale, four robbers were waiting for him.

The robbers grabbed him and pointed a firearm at him.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the robbers knew exactly where the money was and demanded the cash.

As they took the money from him, the man started screaming for help, which alerted his wife to the robbery.

The woman was assaulted by the robbers, who ordered her to lie down.

Ramphora says the woman managed to escape and ran to the bathroom where she locked herself inside and called police.

“The robbers tried to kick down the bathroom door, but failed,” says Ramphora.

The robbers fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.

Ramphora asks the community to report information that will assist the police in their investigation.
