Springs police arrested a 26-year-old man for common robbery in Fourth Street in the Springs CBD, on Thursday.

The robber is believed to have taken a cellphone from a man and when the complainant noticed an unmarked police vehicle at 1pm, he reported the incident.

Springs police spokesman, Capt Johannes Ramphora, says the police approached the suspect and asked for the cellphone but he had already sold it to a shop in the same street.

The suspect took the police to the shop where the phone was identified by its rightful owner.

Ramphora says the shop owner admitted to buying the phone from the suspect.

A case of common robbery was opened at the police station and the suspect will appear in court soon.
