Severe weather warning

The Ekurhuleni Metro warns residents of severe weather in Gauteng.

If possible, stay indoors and clear of windows, keep your pets and vehicles undercover and disconnect electrical appliances.

“A warning was issued by the South African Weather Services of severe thunderstorms expected over Gauteng this afternoon, through to the early evening,” says metro spokesman Themba Gadebe.

Strong and damaging winds, with possible large hail and heavy downpours are expected.

If you are outdoors, do not seek shelter under a tree, telephone or power lines, on hilltops, in isolated sheds, under unprotected gazebos or picnic shelters.

Avoid being near metal objects such as fences, golf carts, telephone or power lines and steel structures.

“Do not hold any metal objects or use any appliances, the telephone, take a bath or shower,” Gadebe urges.

Do not play sport during a thunderstorm.
