Two wonderful women come to the rescue

Bruce Bedingfeld (75) recently experienced top class treatment from the Springs SARS branch and was overwhelmed with the support he received from two staff members.

While SARS employee Marinda Rautenbach was working on his documents, Bruce felt a little dizzy.

He claims Marinda immediately noticed something was wrong and offered him a glass of water.

After drinking the water, he suddenly fainted.

He says he woke up and found the paramedics were there to assist him.

“Marinda and Gerbie Hitge are the most wonderful people and the way they helped is is heart warming,” he says.

The two women called an ambulance which took Bruce to a nearby hospital where he was again astounded by the way he was treated.

He says his blood sugar level and blood pressure dropped, which allegedly caused him to faint.

While he was in the ambulance, Marinda got hold of his son, Angus, who was out of town at the time of the incident.

She also called Bruce’s house worker to let her know what had happened.

“I didn’t expect this to happen and thought I would only be a way for an hour or two,” he says.

At the hospital, after he was stabilised, the hospital staff offered him a cup of tea and a sandwich.

This was another heart-warming experience for Bruce.

He claims one of the nursing staff even offered to take him to Brakpan where he resides.

Marinda and Gerbie offered to keep his car locked up safely until he was able to fetch it the next day.

They also offered to take Bruce home, but a sister at the hospital later dropped him off at his house.

Bruce went back to fetch his car on Friday and couldn’t thank these two wonderful people enough.

He is overwhelmed by the fact that Marinda still calls him every day to find out how he is doing.

They have made a huge impact in my life and I am forever grateful for what they have done to help me,” he says.

Marinda and Gerbie could not be reached for comment at the time of going to print.
