SANBS celebrates Heritage Month

Vanessa Raju, SANBS spokesman, says the organisation must always keep stocks stable.

Even though seasons change, the demand for blood and its various products remains a priority throughout the year.

September is the month when South Africans celebrate Heritage Month and the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) calls on everyone to celebrate something else everyone has in common, blood.

Together SANBS and its loyal donors aim to collect 3 000 units of life-saving blood each day in order to give life to mothers in labour, accident victims, cancer survivors and thousands of others in need of blood transfusions.

“It is a remarkable notion that this precious fluid that runs through my veins could be exactly what you might need,” says Vanessa.

Whether the people prefer cool drink to a cold beer, roasted butternut to well grilled boerewors, this month helps the SANBS to sustain their treasured resource, the nation’s blood supply.

SANBS encourages South Africans to celebrate their heritage and join its family of donors dedicated to giving others the gift of life.
