Counterfeit DVDs confiscated in CBD

CDs and DVDs with a street value of R3 272 were confiscated by EMPD Peace Corps members and officials in Fifth Avenue, Springs CBD, on Tuesday.

While on routine patrol, the EMPD received a complaint from the Gauteng Department of Education about children being exposed to pornographic DVDs illegally offered for sale on the streets.

EMPD spokesman Clifford Shongwe says the banks in the street also complained about these traders selling their wares and obstructing the entrance to their premises.

When the group of EMPD officials approached the illegal traders, they ran away leaving their counterfeit products behind.

Shongwe says it is an offence to be in possession of counterfeit CDs and DVDs, and the community shouldn’t support these illegal traders but rather buy the real thing.

The EMPD seized 2 239 DVDS, 45 pornographic DVDs, 94 foreign DVDs and 895 CDs.
