Centre welcomes mielie meal donation

Vita Nova Centre received 60 5kg bags of mielie meal from learners at Rynfield Primary School, in Benoni, on Friday.

Michelle Immelmann, centre director, says it was a kind gesture.

When Carolyn Langton, a teacher at Rynfield Primary, informed Leigh Lawrence from Earth Angels of their 5kg mielie meal drive, Leigh immediately nominated Vita Nova as a worthy recipient.

The school issued its Grade Seven students with a week long challenge during which they had to dress up a bag of mielie meal as a baby and carry it around with them for the entire week.

“This was part of their life orientation project,” says Carolyn.

At the end of the week they gave their baby (mielie meal) up for adoption and chose Vita Nova as the ‘new’ parent.

Michelle says it was fun watching the learners walking around with their ‘babies’.
