Robbers fail in first bid to rob shop

Robbers demand cellphones and cash.

The four men who robbed a business at the Springsgate Shopping Centre on Wednesday are believed to have been the same men who attempted to rob a shop at Selcourt Towers an hour earlier.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says in both cases, two of the four robbers were armed.

The robbers entered a shop at Selcourt Towers at 9am and pointed their guns at the manager.

They demanded cellphones and cash.

The robbers were scared off, however, when a customer’s child starting crying.

They fled the scene empty-handed.

An hour later, at 10am, four men robbed a business at Springsgate.

Two of the robbers entered the shop and ordered everyone into the fitting rooms.

The two armed robbers pointed their guns at the manager, ordering her to open the safe.

The men took about R10 000 in cash and emptied the safe of all cellphones.

Police are investigating the possibility that the incidents are linked.

Ramphora says no one was injured.
