Rotten sewer garden

The stench of sewage on his doorstep is too much for Casseldale resident, Piet Krige.

All the drains on his premises are currently overflowing onto the paving and into his garden. The issue is posing an increased health risk.

He reported the overflowing drain to the metro on July 15 and received a reference number. He is still, however, waiting on the metro to come out and fix the overflowing drains.

When he can, Krige pumps out the sewage into the street and the sewage then flows into the storm water drain in College Road.

A fed up Krige says that while the water is being pumped out, the level drops, but as soon as the pump stops the sewage rises again.

After reporting the matter over and over again, the metro finally sent someone to Krige’s house. The employee simply rang the bell at the gate and as Krige opened the door, got into their vehicle and left.

He is mostly concerned about the health issue.

“If and when the metro comes out to clear this mess I hope the stench will be gone too,” Krige says.

The Addie awaits comment from the metro.
