Centre receives massive donations for Mandela Day

The Thandabantu Community Care Centre benefited greatly over the weekend and received tremendous donations.

On Friday, July 17, a large paper manufacturing company from Springs repainted the inside of the entire centre and donated new beds, furniture and assorted foods to Thandabantu.

On Mandela Day, July 18, another local business held a massive soup kitchen at Thandabantu. Not only did they arrive with large pots of chicken soup, but they also brought groceries and 50 blankets for the centre.

Charmaine Govendor (49) initiated this project after she read about the strong need the centre has in an article published by the Addie (Care centre needs needs help).

Charmaine took the article to work where they had formed a prayer group. She said it was an unanimous decision by their prayer group to support Thandabantu Community Care Centre for Mandela Day. They all chipped in and managed to raise the money to buy the blankets and sponsor the food.

The prayer group also brought bags filled with sweets and juice for the needy children waiting outside the centre.

Employees from Soweto made the drive to Springs to help dish up the food and hand out the blankets.
