On Friday, July 17, Doctor Malatjie from the Springs parks department helped with garden maintenance at Epilepsy SA in Daggafontein.
Rebecca Teke, the centre manager, says the department volunteered their part for Mandela Day by assisting with the centre’s garden maintenance.
“They trimmed the trees, cleaned the yard and helped iron the laundry,” she says.
Staff from Epilepsy SA also swopped roles for the day. “The admin and nursing staff did the cooking while the cleaners provided recreational services.”
Residents of the centre celebrated Mandela Day by drawing and colouring pictures of Nelson Mandela.
The residents danced and sang with their caretakers and cheered for Mandela, smiling all the way.
