Combat Zone does it again

A junior sensei and five students from Combat Zone Kickboxing Club will represent South Africa in November.

Sensei Wessel Marais decided to send 16 of his students, including his son, junior sensei Ivan Marais, to compete at the SA Kickboxing Championships, recently held in Cape Town.

This proud sensei says his students train hard and go through a tight training programme before competing.

“Each one of my 16 students are champions,” he says.

Ivan (18), who earned his third junior dan recently, knew it would be an extremely tough competition, but was well prepared.

He says although the semi and light contact, weight and belt divisions were tough, he pulled through.

Ivan was chosen for the South African National A team squad and will compete in Ireland from November 22 to 29.

The club now also has five SA National President squad representatives.

Michael van Zyl, Sone Broodryk, Stephen Brummer, Divan Groenewald and Jackie Feldtman returned to Springs as proud B team members after winning their different divisions at the championships.

These five students were chosen for the SA National President squad.

“The students did their best and exactly what they were trained to do at the competition,” he says.

He is proud of all 16 students who competed.

He congratulated the six students who made the SA team.
