Environmentalist will help at duck pond

The sprayers at the George Sutter Park duck pond have been switched off because the Selpark Dam committee is trying to save electricity.

According to Anita Greeff, general manager of the Eastern Gauteng Chamber of Commerce and a committee member, the water level is also currently too low to allow the sprayers to function properly.

The sprayers are working and will be switched on from time to time.

Allowing the sprayers to run day and night is not cost effective due to the high electricity usage.

After the new pump was installed in May, it will take time for the water level to rise to its full capacity.

The committee is planning to obtain the services of an environmentalist to establish the capacity of the pond and to determine how many geese and ducks can be accommodated at the pond.
