It takes two nights

Two night stand tells the, sometimes, funny story of an internet “hook up” gone slightly array.

Megan (Analeigh Tipton) is an unemployed singleton who, after unsuccessfully attempting to get into a club with her roommates, goes home and joins an online dating site.

She meets Alec (Miles Teller) online, and with very little chat or knowledge of one another, the two decide to rendezvous at Alec’s apartment.

A somewhat trite evening of difficult conversation and seemingly unsatisfying bedroom action sees Megan attempting to sneak out the following morning.

As Megan attempts to leave the building she discovers the door has been jammed by a rather heavy snow storm the previous evening and the two are forced to spend another night together waiting for the weather to clear and the snow to be shovelled from the sidewalk.

While the two are less than cordial with one another, they have no choice but to slowly reach some sort of conversational accord – addressing only topics Megan approves of – and in the process land up enjoying one another’s company.

Fast forward to a more instructional round of rompy pompy and the morning arrives with the now better acquainted lovers potentially parting on much better terms.

However, what would a romcom be with a little drama and, after a great night together, Megan discovers a closet full of woman’s clothes and finds out Alec has a girlfriend.

The movie is a different take on the booty call theme and has some uplifting moments which do elicit the odd chuckle.

These include Megan flooding Alec’s toilet when she reads a magazine article she does not enjoy and attempts to flush it.

With no toilet facilities, and a huge amount of junk food under their belts, cue the need for the bathroom.

This prompts them to break into a neighbouring apartment while the family is away and ultimately sees Megan being arrested upon their return.

Alec and his girlfriend have meanwhile broken up and he arrives at the jail to bail her out.

After she refuses to be bailed out by him, despite his gifts of balloons and flowers, her roommates spring her from the clink and Alec has his say on the street where the two eventually kiss.

This movie does have its fun moments, but these are a little diluted by the unknown, and not particularly good, cast of actors.

A better cast would have made the funny moments a lot better.
