Four local schools supported Vita Nova Centre’s annual fun day on Saturday.

It is always an exciting event for the residents when the community gets involved.

Residents, learners and teachers from Veritas Preparatory and Veritas College, Pinegrove Primary School, Selpark Primary School and Dr Johan Jurgens High School, were divided into four groups – Stingrays, Whales, Sharks and Dolphins.

Different games were played where both the learners and the residents had the opportunity to prove which team is the best.

The Stingrays were declared the winners with 584 points.

The Whales took second place with 466 points, the Sharks took third position with 458 points, and the Dolphins were last with 414 points.

Vita Nova director Michelle Immelman says the spirit among the teams was awesome, and it was wonderful to see learners from different schools holding out their hands to the residents, and having fun with them.

According to Selpark Primary School learner Destiny Mqotcho interacting with the residents made her realise how fortunate she is.

Face painting was popular among the learners and Helen Gagas painted Pinegrove Primary School learner Xabalo Xipu’s face.

Chelsey Howard from Veritas College won the dance-off competition.

A total of R26 551 was raised on the day, including three outside donations.

This, however, does not mean the cerebral palsy centre is out of trouble, and more funds are urgently needed to care for the residents.
