The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) arrested the driver of a vehicle with a false license disc and number plates in Springs on Tuesday.
Officers were on routine patrol at 9.30pm, when they noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle parked on the side of the road on Paul Kruger Highway.
EMPD officials Louis Els and Louwtjie du Toit noticed the people in the vehicle trying to stop motorists to ask for petrol money.
Els and du Toit stopped and searched the vehicle, and found the license disc and number plates to be false.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested and taken to the Springs Police Station.
He was charged with possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, displaying a fraudulent license disc and possession of false number plates.
He appeared briefly in Springs Regional Court on Wednesday and was granted bail of R1 000.
The vehicle was taken to the Benoni SAPS Vehicle Theft Unit.
