Open manholes pose danger

Open manholes are plaguing residents of Geduld.

Adam van Wyk, a resident of the area, showed the Addie three irksome manholes along Geduld Street.

The first was an uncovered manhole, which forces motorists to swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid damaging their vehicles.

“Just the other day I almost hit another vehicle when I swerved out to miss the manhole,” van Wyk explains.

The other was a manhole that was covered with a lid far too big for it.

The lid was taken from another manhole in the street, which is now uncovered and filled with rushing water.

Van Wyk fears that this may be extremely dangerous to pedestrians.

“I’ve tried reporting it multiple times to the Ekurhuleni Metro, but there is never any answer on the telephone number they tell the public to call.”

He says the manholes have been in this state for about eight months.

The Addie sent queries to Ekurhuleni but had not received any comment.
