Golfers tee off

Five different golf games played on at Pollak Park over the weekend.

About 70 players took to Pollak Park Golf Course on Saturday for the East Rand Commercial and Industrial League (Ercil) golf competition.

Golf club operations director Darren Plumb says this is a fixed group of players taking part in this monthly competition held at Pollak Park, Springs Country Club and Meyerton golf clubs.

The Betterball Stableford winners were Koos Erasmus and Connie Wiid with 63 points.

Leon Lubbe and Stefan Kruger took second place with 64 points and third place with 65 points was Ras Jacobs and Riaan van Dyk.

“All the guys were complementary about the condition of the golf course,” says Darren.

Results of other competitions played over the weekend:

Meat Comp IPS played on Friday.

Front Nine – first: Jimmy Sanderson 19 points; second: John Stopforth 17 points; third: Roy Palmer 16 points on count out.

Back Nine – first: Ian McGrail 19 points; second: Syd Reid 18 points; third: Hein Snyman 17 points.

At the Saturday AM IPS Stefan Nel won with 39 points.

Brad Schroeder took second place with 37 points and in third place was Eugene Smal with 37 points.

The Saturday PM IPS was won by Raymond van Rooyen with 38 points.

Ian Stewart was second with 37 points on count out, and Derek Waters was third with 37 points on count out.

On Monday 270 golfers played the Betterball Stableford.

R Coetzee G Graig were the winners with 48 points

Jan Steyn and Christo Steyn were second with 46 points and Mel Browning and Eddie Browning took third place with 45 points.
