Metro’s EFT payment problem fixed

Residents have been experiencing problems with the Ekurhuleni Metro's Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) payment method.

Upon receiving their monthly account, some residents make an EFT payment a few days before the due date, only to receive a final notice in the mail a few days later.

When they phone the municipality, they are told that the payment only reflected on the metro’s system recently and they should discard the final notice.

The metro states that an EFT payment usually takes 48 hours to show on their system, but in the case of some residents, it can take up to 11 days.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for Ekurhuleni, confirmed that an EFT payment’s normal reflection time frame is 48 hours.

“The metro experienced technical problems at the beginning of April, due to the delayed payments allocations, which have since been fixed,” he says.

The EFT method of payment is part of the third party payment options, as printed at the back of accounts.

Payments should be made seven days before the due date of the account to avoid any disconnections, and can also be made at various Ekurhuleni Customer Care Centres (CCC’s).

“EFT is the most convenient way of doing payments, notwithstanding the problems encountered during the beginning of April,” adds Gadebe.
