Child welfare asks for tolerance

Child Welfare South Africa (CWSA) has condemned the recent xenophobic attacks that have gripped Gauteng.

In a statement received from national executive director Peter Cloete he states: “The country introduced Ubuntu to the world and was an example of peaceful transition from the brutal apartheid regime to a peaceful democratic South Africa.”

Where violence and brutality prevail, the most vulnerable sector of our communities, women and children, suffer the most, and all children have the right to live in peace, love, comfort and safety.

CWSA and all 44 affiliates are committed to protect children irrespective of race, creed, religious belief or nationality.

The organisation provide assistance where needed and rally communities to support those who have been affected by the xenophobic attacks and violence.

“We owe it to all the children in South Africa to ensure they can grow up in country where reconciliation, tolerance, peace and love prevail,” says Cloete.

All leaders are urged to stand up and declare these senseless acts of brutality will not be tolerated.

In Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, former president Nelson Mandela is quoted:

“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion.

“People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
