The cash taken was recovered.

At 7.40pm yesterday (April 9), six men attempted to rob a liquor store in Geduld.

The suspects allegedly asked for the safe and demanded ammunition.

It is believed that someone pressed the panic button, as a security company official arrived on the scene.

At the time of the official’s arrival, the robbers started shooting at him.

Two Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) officials then arrived on the scene and took cover.

Five of the robbers ran away and one suspect was arrested when the Springs police arrived on the scene.

It is believed the one suspect was still inside the store when he was arrested.

EMPD officials Louis Els and Louwrens du Toit claim they and the SAPS followed up on information received about the getaway vehicle.

Four of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle when they noticed they were being followed and ran towards a petrol station on Paul Kruger Highway.

They were arrested by the police and taken into custody.

According to Els, only three of the suspects were armed and one firearm was found in the vehicle.
