Robyn has done it again
Robyn says she was super excited when she was announced as the SA National Outdoor Archery champion.
Robyn Barrows (18) is a champion.
The Springs teenager took gold at the South African (SA) Archery Outdoor Championships, last week.
The competition was held in Johannesburg over four days, and ended on a high note for Robyn.
There were over 150 archers who took part in the championships, with some competitors from as far afield as Namibia.
Robyn shot reasonably well during the competition and secured a place in the 1440 championship, which is shot at distances of 30, 50, 60 and 70 metres respectively.
Robyn says this is all done in one day, with 36 arrows.
In the 720 championships, she scored well and earned the top rank for the medal matches, which was shot at 50m.
Although she didn’t feel well on the first day, she returned to shoot very well on the second day, claiming the highest score of the day.
She moved through the ranks, and faced one of the top archers in South Africa and a second-ranked competitor in the World Archery Championships, to compete in the gold medal match.
Robyn won the 1440 and 720 SA Nationals Archery Outdoor Championships, and received her award at the prize-giving ceremony held after the competition.
She also received two awards for breaking records in Compound Junior Women and Elimination Score categories.
She claims to have worked very hard to achieve the highest score and is very excited about being the champion.
Robyn’s father Willie Barrows says words cannot describe how proud he is of his daughter.
“I am very proud of what she has achieved since she started archery two years ago,” he says.
