A joyous reunion

Annette felt connected to my daughter.

An indescribable reunion between a mother and her daughter will be imprinted on their memories forever.

Geduld resident Theresa Viljoen (47) saw her biological mother Annette Welch (67) for the first time on Thursday (April 2) since her adoption 47 years ago.

The Addie recently reported on Theresa’s excitement ahead of the reunion (‘Woman finds her mother’, March 19).

It was only recently that Theresa realised the need to meet her mother, and the excitement took over prior to the meeting day.

Going to the Johannesburg Station to fetch Annette at 7am, Theresa’s heart was racing with anticipation.

She was well prepared and knew what her mother looked like because she had received a photo of her.

Theresa presented Annette with a bouquet of flowers upon her arrival at the station

Annette says a lot of thoughts crossed her mind during her bus trip from East London to Johannesburg.

One of them was what she would experience when holding her daughter again.

Much to her surprise, the reunion went very well.

“I immediately felt connected to Theresa,” she says.

For the next three weeks Annette will stay with her daughter and her family, to catch up on everything.

Theresa’s husband Hannes Viljoen says they are not interested in the past and will focus on the future.

During the Addies’ visit to the family, Hannes and Theresa’s son Jason (15) handed over a chocolate to his new found grandmother.

“It is a token of my love for her,” he says.

Now that Annette has met Jason she can’t wait to meet her other grandson Jonathan le Roux (21), who lives in Krugersdorp.
