New fence soon to be erected

A clear view fence is agreed upon between the metro and sponsors of the duck pond.

After a few people met at the George Sutter Park duck pond last Monday, no date has been set for the erection of the new fence.

Metro parks department manager Lindiwe Makubalo confirmed the meeting between her, Springs residents Wollastan Labuschagne and Goosey Fernandes and the appointed contractor to discuss the new fence.

She says no date was received from the contractor on when he will start erecting the fence but she wants the project to be implemented as soon as possible.

A fence was erected recently, but the contractor was instructed by Makubalo to remove it immediately as it is not the commitment the council made to the partners in terms of the type of fence to be erected.

She believes the fence will be erected soon and once the contractor starts she will advise the Addie accordingly.

Spokesman for the metro Themba Gadebe says the tender has been awarded to the contractor and the metro has managed to secure funds to start the project.

“We do apologise to the sponsors who dedicated themselves to seeing the duck pond in good condition,” says Gadebe.
