Wheelers give Ride for Sight a new meaning

Cyclists enjoyed the ride with blind cyclists.

Springs Wheelers showed their commitment to helping the blind at the Dis-Chem Ride for Sight at Boksburg Stadium on Sunday.

The club has been the host for this event for many years and proudly wear the Retina South Africa logo on their club shirts.

Five club members took blind passengers on the back of tandem bikes for the 62km race.

Two more tandems and their passengers joined the Springs Wheelers group to accompany them during the race.

Club member Ray Roodt shares the fantastic experience the sighted `pilots` and blind passengers had.

“They might not be able to see so well, but there is nothing wrong with their legs,” he says.

It was a proud moment for Ray when he saw seven tandems with blind passengers, all in Springs Wheelers kit.Ray was amazed by the spirit of the blind guys.

He is proud to announce the good turnout of helpers on the day and urges the members to try and arrange more pilots for the blind guys.

“Ride for Sight is an amazing platform for this initiative,” he adds.
