Resident reaches out to children

He challenges individuals and businessmen to also get involved with the children of this squatter camp.

On Saturday, school children of Skoonplaas received school uniforms.

Donald Sekgobela, a resident of Eastvale says he decided to get involved with the children from Skoonplaas four years ago as they passed him each morning on his way to work.

Donald says because he grew up in poverty and knows how it feels not to have school shoes, he decided to meet some of these children’s needs by donating something on his birthday to them each year on January 2.

He is a bit late this year, because he himself wrote examinations during that time.

Last year Donald gave the children school shoes and challenged them to attain good school results.

He is very proud of the children’s results because all of them, including two matrics, passed their 2014 exams.

This year he returned with full school uniforms for 49 primary school and high school children, with another challenge to study hard at school.

Donald also challenges individuals and businesses to get involved in these children’s lives, especially the ones who passed matric.

“The young people just out of school need internships and opportunities to better their lives and this can only happen if the community reaches out to them,” he says.
