UPDATE: ‘It might only be rats’

Alleged robbers are possibly rats running around.

The Springs police’s reaction to the allegations on alleged robbers on the roof of a bank in Fifth Avenue on Tuesday, is that it is not to be true.

Spokesman for the Springs police Captain Johannes Ramphora, told the Addie this morning that the police found nothing in the ceiling.

This comes after the police and EMPD arrived on the scene late Tuesday afternoon.

They received a call from a bank claiming one of the staff members could hear footsteps in the ceiling of the bank.

The two EMPD officers on the scene said they climbed into the ceiling to investigate, but couldn’t see anything.

Upon further investigation the SAPS found the allegations to be untrue.

The Addie contacted Tony da Cruz from a local security company, who commented on the story published on Facebook.

According to him there are many rats in the area and the noise was probably rats running around in the ceiling.

“Having not heard anything from the SAPS or the bank on the matter I would probably think that rats was indeed probably the cause,” he said.
