Two arrested for possession of explosives

Policeman goes undercover to catch men dealing in explosives.

The Germiston Organised Crime Unit arrested two men aged 31 and 36 years earlier today for dealing in explosives.

A source informed the police of the two suspects from Delmas who are selling illegal explosives to miners.

Members of the organised crime unit intercepted while an undercover policeman met with one of the suspects yesterday.

Spokesman for the Springs police Captain Johannes Ramphora says when the suspect met with the policeman he didn’t have explosives with him.

It is not known why only one suspect arrived for the meeting with the potential buyer.

The police source informed them that the transaction was postponed to today.

Ramphora says the organised crime unit are experienced in the knowledge of explosives and identified it as mining explosives.

The two suspects were arrested immediately.

The 16 explosives used for illegal mining were taken by the police as evidence.

Ramphora says the suspects remain in the Springs police cells until their court appearance.
