Crime prevention’s combined plans for 2015

The first of several meetings was held at the Springs Police Station earlier today to put a proposed project plan on the table.

The main purpose of these projects are to prevent crime and to educate the community on fighting crime.

Spokesman for the Springs police Captain Johannes Ramphora says the police are working hand in hand with several organisations regarding this matter.

Some of the organisations present were Christelike Maatskaplike Raad (CMR), Springs and KwaThema Child Welfare Society, Wild Wild Guardians, Hi5 Kids Recovery Unit, sector commanders, visible policing, social crime prevention and corporate communication and the Family Violence Unit.

CMR social worker Alta Jansen van Rensburg says the plan is to work closely with local police in all their school holiday projects, drug testing, home visits and the removal of children.

It is noted that the police wants to include the EMPD, the Department of Education, Springs court, probation officers and those involved in drug rehabilitation programmes in their project year plan.

“It is vital to work closely with all relevant organisations and departments to assist the police in fighting crime, serve the community and create a safer environment for all our children,” he says.

The aim of all of these projects is to make Springs a drug free town.

Ramphora says the police request parents interested in providing foster care for the children that are removed from the homes, to come forward and contact the CMR, Child Welfare or social services and register as a foster parent.
