Everyone loves the low fuel price

The fuel price dropped over three rands per litre for 93 octane unleaded fuel.

The recent petrol price drop of R1.27 per litre for 93 Octane, R1.23 per litre for 95 Octane and R1.05 per litre of Diesel is one that brought smiles to faces of motorists all across South Africa. This petrol price decrease came into effect on Wednesday.

“Yesterday was boring, with one customer each 30 minutes, but since 12am we were working hard,” says petrol attendant Phineas Maugi of a petrol station in Selcourt.

Chris Mefsut, owner of a Strubenvale petrol station, says he is very happy with this price drop.

The petrol price for 93 octane petrol was at its highest at R14,16 per litre during April last year and gradually dropped since then.

It was R12,29 per litre in December.

Mefsut says at this stage it seems as if the price will drop more early next month.

He says many customers waited until after the price decrease came into effect to fill up, making Wednesday morning a busy one in their forecourt.

Petrol station owners like Mefsut will benefit from the decreased price, because a lower price means that the petrol station gets a higher gross profit percentage on sales.

He echoes the comment of many customers who feel the high price of basic food stuffs has to be adjusted as the price of fuel is usually the reason for price hikes.

Allan Bodington, manager at a Selcourt petrol station, also says the lower price is good for the customer as well as for the service stations.

“The customer has more usage per litres petrol now,” he says.

Natalie Bester, a customer, is delighted about the lower fuel price. She says the lower price will definitely benefit her and her family because they have three cars and a motorbike to fill with petrol.

Another motorist who voiced her delight was Stacy Mynhardt, saying it will go a long way in bettering each of our lives.

Stacy Mynhardt is like many other motorists delighted about the lower fuel price. With her is Themba Mngoma, supervisor of a Selcourt petrol station.
