Robber fire shot at shack owner

A case of attempted murder was opened at the Springs Police Station on Saturday (December 20).

A man and his family were asleep at 11pm, when he heard a noise at the shack door.

The chain he used to lock the door with, fell to the floor.

Captain Johannes Ramphora, spokesman for the Springs police, says the man allegedly grabbed a steel rod and waited in the dark for the robber to enter.

When the robber entered the shack the owner started attacking him with the steel rod.

It is believed another robber entered and fired a shot at the shack owner, but missed.

Ramphora says the owner’s wife woke up from the commotion and blew a whistle.

The two robbers ran away.

Ramphora says the family were too traumatised to sleep in their own shack and found refuge with the neighbours for the night.
