Springs police members rewarded

The Springs police held its annual award ceremony at the lapa next to the Springs Police Station on Friday.

Captain Johannes Ramphora, spokesman for the Springs police, says it was management’s choice to reward the members for their exceptional diligence in their duties.

“From the highest rank to the volunteers, each one is a winner,” says Brigadier Thembeka Gwebushe, station commander of the Springs police.

She pointed out that there will always be a man of the match therefore these awards were handed to people who did exceptionally well.

Among the guests were Mike du To it, chairman of Springs Community Police Forum (CPF) and cluster members.

Constable Jim Maphallehe is the Top Cop 2014.

It was a proud moment, not only for Maphalle, but also for Gwebushe.

She says the police services need more men like Maphalle, who goes the extra mile, is dedicated and has a positive attitude.

Maphalle says he is overwhelmed with the award.

He wants to thank the community police forum and the community for their assistance throughout the year.

He is especially grateful to Captain Siyakudumisa Notisi, for his support and says Notisi’s assistance made his job a lot easier.

‘The long hours and determination paid off,” he says.

Another proud moment for Gwebushe was when she handed over another special award to Constable Jabulane Nkwinika.

‘This man is dedicated to his job at the Spring Police Station cells,” she says.

According to her she visits the cells every morning before she goes to her office and always finds friendly Nkwinika with his positive attitude.

What impressed her the most, is that it came to HDR attention Nkwinika is the one keeping the cells clean every day-

He was very pleased with the award and says he never expected it as he is just doing his job.

Although everyone who received awards are special, Gwebushe says detective Warrant

Officer Frans Strydom did extremely well this year by solving a lot of cases this year.

Another special award was handed over to Visible Policing member Constable Mzwandile Speelman, for his exceptional contribution to fight crime.

Ramphora’s two right hand workers Yolande Cathill and Amanda Greybe were also awarded.

Greybe received a merit award for corporate communication and Cathill for social crime prevention.

Special thanks was given to all the staff members and to Du Toit for his dedication and assistance.

Gwebushe says SAPS members cannot fight crime alone and need the cluster commanders and the community to assist them.

“Together we can do it.”
