Bamboozled!

At least there is still one thing that is sacrosanct in my life – my walks over the weekend. I don’t have to share those with that dastardly Ralph.

Last Saturday we were busy on our walk. I was sniff sniffing here there and everywhere. It was nice and early, a tad on the chilly side and there were not many other people out walking.

I saw Alpha lean over to mom and whisper in her ear.

Hmmm…. thought to my own furry self – that’s a bit rude.

Talking silently so your doglet can’t hear you.

Then I smelled something interesting and charged off to investigate.

Got to the top of the hill.

Glanced over my shoulder at Alpha and tore off down the pathway, anticipating the delightful sound of ball whooshing passed my left ear.

Reached halfway down the path and stopped.

No whooshing sound had materialized.

Odd.

Turned around and looked at my humans.

Alpha was making throwing motions but I could not see the ball.

Mom was wringing her hands and saying… Aaahhh sorry Fudges – silly old Alpha forgot the ball in the car.

Shook my head and flapped my ears.

Surely they were deceiving me.

Maybe the cold had made me deaf.

No ball?

Not possible.

We turned around the corner.

By now I was exceedingly anxious.

The whole point of going for a walk is playing ball.

Apha snatched something off the ground and flung it back up the pathway.

It was round and bounced.

I set off at one hellish speed.

So fast that my back legs almost overtook my front paws.

But it was a pinecone.

Not my ball at all.

I had been bamboozled.

He really did forget it in the car.

Mom made sure he remembered it the next day though.
