Charities benefit of Wheels and Wings

The non-perishable food collected at the Springs Advertiser and the African Reporter's Wheels and Wings Day in August has been distributed.

Eight charities benefited from the community’s donations.

The beneficiaries are: Vita Noval Cerepal Palsy Centre, Hope iThemba Pregnancy Crisis Centre, Potters Haven, Projek Uitkoms, Jesus Outreach Feeding Scheme, Springs and KwaThema Child Welfare Society, Esda Frail Care Centre and Thanbantu Community Centre.

It took Ueli Hiller, a member of the Springs Park Rotary Club and three workers several days to count the tins and sort the food.

The 2 525 tins of food, 180 soup soya, 43kg of rice, 43kg of mealie meal and other food were placed into piles and marked according to the beneficiaries’ needs.

The toothpaste, biscuits, chips and 4kg jam tins were also divided between the charities.

Hiller estimates the value of the food is about R42 000.
