Everyone needs to shine at their matric farewell

The project initially started when Gigi Kruger overheard some parents complaining about the expense of a matric farewell and not being able to afford it.

The idea stayed with her and soon the project had a name.

Diva for a Night was born and today she is running this charity project with her daughter Tanya Kruger.

Gigi says the first dress they received was a blue dress donated by a girl who did not know what to do with her beautiful matric farewell dress.

It snowballed since then and they receive donations of dresses, shoes, accessories, suits and many more from all over the country.

Tanya says she once drove around for two consecutive days to collect the clothes, shoes and accessories for this project.

Gigi says being able to afford your child’s matric farewell is a costly affair and there are parents sitting with their hands in their hair not knowing what to do or who to turn to for help.

“It is not necessary for any Grade 12 boy or girl to be concerned about having a beautiful matric farewell, they should concentrate on their studies,” she says.

Diva for a Night can help these learners, but they need to contact them for assistance.

The don’t just help the girls with a dress and shoes, but also with their make-up, hair and nails.

Gigi says they even have a beautiful car to transport the children to the event.

Almost 66 boys and girls gained from this project over the past two years.

Gigi says they also help brides-to-be with the dress and necessary accessories if what they have falls within the taste of the bride.

The community can assist this project by donating their unwanted matric farewell and wedding dresses, shoes, ballroom gowns, accessories as well as men’s shows, suits, shirts and ties.
