UPDATE: Mother arrested, case not on roll

The case has not been placed on the court roll yet.

The mother of the five children abused in a Springs house was been arrested on Monday and is expected to appear in the Springs Regional Court today (Tuesday).

However, when the Addie contacted the court this morning, the case has yet to be placed on the roll to be heard today.

Our journalist is at the court and we will bring you the details of the case when the matter is called before the court.

Captain Johannes Ramphora of the Springs police has confirmed that the wife of the man dubbed the Springs Monster has been arrested today.

It is believed that the charges against her will be the same as her husband’s – child abuse, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, defeating the ends of justice and attempted murder.

The 36-year-old man is currently in Modderbee Prison awaiting the start of his trial on July 25, after his bail was denied on June 5.

The case relates to the abuse of the couple’s five children, aged one to 16 years old, who were kept locked up and abused in their Springs house for a number of years before their 11-year-old son escaped and sought help from the neighbours on May 20.

It was then that the police launched an investigation, rescued the children and arrested the father who later tried to commit suicide while in police custody awaiting transport back to Modderbee Prison.

The mother will appear in the Springs Regional Court on Tuesday morning.

The Addie will report on the case as soon as she has appeared.
