Stepmother out on bail

A woman accused of killing a two-year-old girl was granted bail

The stepmother of a two-year-old girl who died on April 6, is granted bail.

Her bail application hearing took place in the Springs Regional Court today.

Magistrate Joshua Mashau, granted R1 000 bail and placed her under house arrest.

Correctional service officials will visit her every Monday and Thursday until her next court appearance on July 2.
She was arrested on April 24 for child neglect and murder.
The toddler died after she visited her father and his family.
The father of the child apparently received a phone call from his wife at the end of March claiming the child fell off the couch and bumped her head.
When he arrived home he found the toddler unconscious and rushed her to the N17 Hospital.
After a computed axial tomography (CAT) scan was done, the child immediately underwent brain surgery.
On April 4, the doctor informed the parents that she was brain dead.
Two days later the child died.
Her next court appearance will be on July 2 for further investigation.
