Fatima festival and folk dance

The Portuguese community enjoying a day festive day

The Fatima Festival goes hand-in-hand with good Portuguese food and folk dance.

Sunday’s atmosphere was filled with joy and laughter.

People enjoyed the festivities, enjoying the traditional prego rolls, espetada and farturas.

Later in the afternoon a lot of children gathered at the front of the hall, placing themselves comfortably on the floor, waiting for the traditional folk dances performed by the Folkrolé of Madeira.

The dancers represented different villages on the island of Madeira.

Father Brian Mhcanga from Our Lady of Mercy, was fascinated by the different dances and their dancers’ traditional clothes.

He asked Maria-Goretti Helena questions, who explained the meaning of each dance to him.

At the end of the day everyone supported the festival and said they look forward to next year’s festival.
