Ebotse murder case postponed again

On June 17 the court will hear if the Ebotse murder case will continue in a high court

Following another appearance in the Benoni Magistrates Court on Wednesday, murder accused and Springs businessman Retief Liebenberg will only hear on June 17 whether his case will be heard in the high court.

Magistrate Ian Cox, heard that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has compiled a preliminary charge sheet but it has yet to be confirmed which high court will hear the case.

The location and date of the high court case will be made known to Liebenberg when he appears back in the Benoni Magistrates Court on June 17.

Liebenberg’s advocate Marius van Wyngaardt noted that the dossier had not been received from the prosecution. This was then handed to and accepted by van Wyngaardt during the proceedings in Cox’s court.

He also asked for the court’s assistance in summoning witnesses for the defense.

Liebenberg is accused of killing two people at his Ebotse home. He allegedly shot dead Dewalt Visser senior (46) and his son, Dewalt “Poenie” Visser (20), on October 31.
