Les van Breda triumphs

Pollak Park resident, Les van Breda (64) took part in and won the 13th Passion for Speed Historic Race Meeting.

The race was split over two rounds, the first in Zwartkops, Pretoria on February 1 and the second in Killarney, Cape Town on February 8.

The riders who took part gathered from all parts of the globe and used classic or historic bikes to compete with.

Van Breda won four straight class wins, making him the overall victor for the second year in a row.

“This year was tougher than last year,” he says.

“I trained very hard for this event.”

Van Breda has been racing for nearly 50 years and was awarded his Springbok colours in 1963.

He won the race on his classic 1961, 1198cc Suzuki Katana.

While he thinks he is getting too old to compete, when asked if he would do it again he said, “I most probably would.”

Les van Breda is the perfect example of how you can never be too old to do what you love.
