Two high-profile businessmen gunned down in Springs
On October 17, a drive-by shooting occurred in Persida Road, killing two prominent businessmen from Delmas and critically injuring a third.
Police are investigating a case of murder after two prominent businessmen from Delmas were gunned down on October 17 on Welgedacht Road and Stoffberg Road, Springs.
The two men, Bongane Msiza and Simon Mathe were travelling in a gold Jaguar SUV to Springs Mall with another male and two women when they were tailed by a silver vehicle with unknown occupants.
According to Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, a witness said shots were fired at the gold Jaguar towards the curve in Persida Road.
Msiza, who was driving, attempted to flee from the shooters but lost control in a mealie field.
The assailants followed Msiza’s vehicle in the field and continued to fire shots.
“Msiza was shot behind the steering wheel while Mathe was shot dead in the back seat,” said Tshabalala.
“A third man who was sitting in the front passenger seat was shot. He tried to escape, but was shot in the leg. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is said to be in a serious but stable condition.”
Tshabalala added that the women were injured and were treated at the scene.
