Springs women in blue conduct a successful roadblock

Springs SAPS female officers conducted a women's month awareness roadblock on Wednesday morning at Welgedacht Road.

The Springs women in blue braved the cold on Wednesday morning to embark on an intensive Operation Basadi roadblock on Welgedacht Road.

The roadblock was part of the ongoing enforcement led by women as part of commemorating Women’s Month.

With many strides taken to promote a safer road environment and build safer communities, many motorists were pleased to see the visibility of the officers, especially women, taking the lead.

The female officers presented a show of strength when they conducted the operation to ensure compliance on the road and fight crime in the community.

The Gauteng Crime Prevention Unit, the EMPD, and the CPF played a supportive role in the operation.

Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala said the operation was very effective as the officers concentrated on vehicle roadworthiness and traffic violations.

“The officers also checked out the vehicle engine and chassis numbers to ensure that no stolen vehicles were travelling on the road. They also checked for drugs, stolen property, and unlicensed firearms,” said Tshabalala.

Over 60 women were deployed in the operation, where they stopped 130 vehicles and searched 400 people, which yielded the arrest of six immigrants for illegal documentation.
