Cro-Knitters go beyond 67 minutes and crochet for a good cause
The women took to the challenge set out to knit blankets and beanies for the home's 230 residents.
Sixty-seven minutes isn’t limited to just Mandela Day for Springs’ Cro-Knitters. The group of women, who form part of the organisation that is based at Turning Point Ministries, ran a crochet drive for the residents of San Michele in Brakpan.
The home for the intellectually and physically challenged received blankets and beanies from Cro-Knitters.
Hettie Openshaw and Sunnett Fowler, who represented the home, had a few words to say in expressing their gratitude to the ladies.
“We would love to thank everyone for this fantastic donation, it’s absolutely wonderful,” said Hettie.
“We put out a challenge for the 67 minutes and Heather accepted. We were so surprised that it’s both beanies and blankets being given to the patients.”
Sunnett added her words of thanks while emphasising the importance to keep supporting the home.
“The need is very big to a point where it feels overwhelming. Even though we have donations coming from unknown sources from all over, it’s cold and there’s a problem with the load-shedding,” she remarked.
She thanked everyone for their efforts while admitting just how emotional the plight of the home makes her.
“I thank you for this because I am sometimes overwhelmed by the need and the plights of the home. It is truly humbling to know that God looks after each and every one of us,” said Sunnett.
The organisation still needs wool donations for many of its other charity drives. Donations of wool may be dropped off at Turning Point Ministries on 59 Miller Road, Nuffield.
