Runners and walkers are invited to parkrun

Bring your friends and family for some fun-filled exercise.

One-hundred-and-twenty-six park runners and walkers set off on an icy winter morning for the weekly 5km parkrun trail.

The event comprised 58 women, 53 men and 15 unregistered participants, nine of which were first-time attendees at Presidents Park parkrun.

Nineteen volunteers assisted old and new participants navigate the double-lapped trail.

Participants ran, jogged or walked the distance, claiming 26 new personal bests in attempting to beat the male and female division records.

The results for July 1 are:
Women
-Malinda du Plessis 23:58
-Elsie Ndlovu 30:59
-Mary-Ann van Rensburg 31:15

Men
-Barry Sweetman 22:01
-Andrias Tshetsha 22:37
-Scott Stevenson 22:41

“Congratulations to our milestone runners. Elizabeth Abraham on joining the 100-club and Mariana Botha and Etienne Rakow on joining the 25-club,” said event organiser Marius Jonker.

The Springs parkrun is held every Saturday at 08:00. Entrance is free.

Runners and walkers of all ages can register at Presidents Park before the run/walk. Get there with your phone to get help from parkrun members.

Bring your loved ones for some healthy fun and meet new people. Those who cannot walk or run can always volunteer at the event – all are welcome.
